Early Calves and Late Posts

As regular readers, you’ve probably noticed my weekly post is coming out a little late this week. That’s because we’ve been busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest around here. Emergency calls, buying cows, and fixing fences have us running all over. Since I’ve got a bit of time here to catch up, I thought I’d share a fun little story from this weekend.

Our puppy Cletus

Here is a puppy picture of Cletus as a peace offering.

On Saturday, Mom and I went out to feed the cows. We counted 44 through the gate, and Mom said that was one short. I thought it wasn’t, but before we could figure out who was right something else came up and we lost our train of thought.

Flash forward to this morning (Tuesday), and Mom goes out to check cows. There are 45 head, plus one little one! Apparently on Saturday the cow was out having her calf, and had him hid since then. This is a surprise, since the calf came two weeks early (though it isn’t totally unexpected). The good news is he’s a happy, healthy little fellow, who has enjoyed frolicking in the pasture by himself. Hopefully he’ll have some new playmates in the future.

I’ll try to catch up with my work, and hopefully have a more complete blog post for you next week.
